Blending chorus vocals, pennywhistle, Irish pipes, world percussion and driving guitars and bass, their music ranges from traditional jigs and reels to original folk rock and pop numbers. Many of the band's musical themes draw from Celtic myth and legend, but their style is modern, upbeat and accessible.
The band has six CD's released ("Emerald Rose" 1998, "Bending Tradition" 2000, their live CD "Fire In The Head" 2002, "Celtic Crescent" 2003, the limited release CD "Songs for the Night Sky" 2004, and "Archives of Ages to Come 2005). Their music has been featured on numerous radio shows across the USA, and on two documentary films: "Ringers: Lord of the Fans" by theOneRing.net and "Done The Impossible" by Brian Wiser.
Emerald Rose is known for rousing, high-energy live performances. They have performed to capacity crowds at Atlanta venues such as Dragon*Con, the Variety Playhouse, Eddies Attic and numerous Celtic festivals. Emerald Rose was the headline band at the Oscars cast party for "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" in 2003, and again at the Oscars-sweep celebration cast party for "Return of the King" in 2004.

Hurricane dean directly hits Mayan "temple of the the decending god"

I had to paste this in...I was bumbling around.

When it comes to Nine Wind's "serpent rope" on which he climbs down from the heavens to the earth, the best interpretation I have read renders that rope as a method of descending from out of a worm hole in space. A worm hole is a theoretical link in space between two disparate points of a galaxy; in short, a worm hole is a possible time-travel tunnel through the aether or outer space. It would take very advanced technology to be able to hold the ends of a worm hole open, however; so if a "god" could descend to earth through such a worm hole, then he would probably be a member of a super-advanced race of extraterrestrials. Many people do believe that the Maya gods are in fact humanoid ETs.

So the damn spanish killed off the city with diseases. Is it 2012 yet?

In addition to the conference, there will be a Gala filled with dancing,
merriment, and an auction to benefit The New Alexandrian Library Project

Paganism by Hakim Bey

CONSTELLATIONS BY WHICH TO steer the barque of the soul. "If the moslem understood Islam he would become an idol- worshipper."--Mahmud Shabestari Eleggua, ugly opener of doors with a hook in his head & cowrie shells for eyes, black santeria cigar & glass of rum- -same as Ganesh, elephant-head fat boy of Beginnings who rides a mouse. The organ which senses the numinous atrophies with the senses. Those who cannot feel baraka cannot know the caress of the world.

Hermes Poimandres taught the animation of eidolons, the magic in-dwelling of icons by spirits--but those who cannot perform this rite on themselves & on the whole palpable fabric of material being will inherit only blues, rubbish, decay.

The pagan body becomes a Court of Angels who all perceive this place--this very grove--as paradise ("If there is a paradise, surely it is here!"--inscription on a Mughal garden gate)..

But ontological anarchism is too paleolithic for eschatology- -things are real, sorcery works, bush-spirits one with the Imagination, death an unpleasant vagueness--the plot of Ovid's Metamorphoses--an epic of mutability. The personal mythscape.

Paganism has not yet invented laws--only virtues. No priestcraft, no theology or metaphysics or morality--but a universal shamanism in which no one attains real humanity without a vision.

Food money sex sleep sun sand & sinsemilla--love truth peace freedom & justice. Beauty. Dionysus the drunk boy on a panther--rank adolescent sweat--Pan goatman slogs through the solid earth up to his waist as if it were the sea, his skin crusted with moss & lichen--Eros multiplies himself into a dozen pastoral naked Iowa farm boys with muddy feet & pond-scum on their thighs.

Raven, the potlatch trickster, sometimes a boy, old woman, bird who stole the Moon, pine needles floating on a pond, Heckle/Jeckle totempole-head, chorus-line of crows with silver eyes dancing on the woodpile--same as Semar the hunchback albino hermaphrodite shadow-puppet patron of the Javanese revolution.

Yemaya, bluestar sea-goddess & patroness of queers--same as Tara, bluegrey aspect of Kali, necklace of skulls, dancing on Shiva's stiff lingam, licking monsoon clouds with her yard-long tongue--same as Loro Kidul, jasper-green Javanese sea-goddess who bestows the power of invulnerability on sultans by tantrik intercourse in magic towers & caves.

From one point of view ontological anarchism is extremely bare, stripped of all qualities & possessions, poor as CHAOS itself--but from another point of view it pullulates with baroqueness like the Fucking-Temples of Kathmandu or an alchemical emblem book--it sprawls on its divan eating loukoum & entertaining heretical notions, one hand inside its baggy trousers.

The hulls of its pirate ships are lacquered black, the lateen sails are red, black banners with the device of a winged hourglass.

A South China Sea of the mind, off a jungle-flat coast of palms, rotten gold temples to unknown bestiary gods, island after island, the breeze like wet yellow silk on naked skin, navigating by pantheistic stars, hierophany on hierophany, light upon light against the luminous & chaotic dark.

Death Mask Workshop and Samhain Ritual

Saturday October 21st, 2006, 10am - 4:00pm - Death Mask Workshop - UUCH– Admission $10 for a full mask and $5 for a half mask. Throughout time we have found that, as adults, we feel a need a pull to go back, back to the nature of our true selves and dig a little deeper to find out who we truly are in spirit. Through that time we have played many “roles” and with those roles come the masks that we have accepted wearing in our lifetime. Many of these masks have caused the death of our true self or at least hidden that part of us from the world. In this workshop you will discover your through meditation, discussion and then create your own Death Mask. Either bring a bagged lunch or $5 toward Pizza order for lunch. Bring snacks, soap and towels for clean up, as well as a pillow for your comfort. Following this intense workshop will be Queen of Heaven Circle’s Samhain Ritual that evening. This will be an interactive evening working with our Death Masks and starting the new year by removing the masks we have worn. This is an adult activity - mature teens are able to attend with parental guidance only. Email Queen of Heaven Circle to RSVP at contactus@queenofheavencircle.org!

Blessings All,

I wanted to post this for a friend of mine and thought you all may be interested in this!

~Sue

Buffalo Gap Campground, Capon Bridge WV

http://www.healing-the-spirit.com

The vision we call into being:
The dark of the year approaches and it’s time again to look inward. Time to seek the wisdom of quiet spaces and deeper knowing.

Healing the Spirit seeks to do just that. A 4 day weekend retreat to help you awaken the healing power within. Through community rituals, classes and quiet time you will have a chance to unwind from your every day life. As you do, you will find yourself slowing down and allowing your magikal, healing self to come forward and play.

The weekend centers on our alchemical fire circle from Saturday midnight to Sunday dawn. As we dance and drum around the fire, each person will work through their own alchemical process to bring up their lead, melt it in the fire of creativity and transform it into the gold of awareness. With an intention inspire healing and growth we will use our gold to celebrate our transformation into the beings of light that we all are.

Are you ready to take an active role healing your life?

Are you ready to experience how powerful you are?

Choose to step into the circle of fire and discover magik.

If you have a fire in your belly and are inspired to be more involved, we are currently looking for a hand full of co-conspirators to help us bring on the alchemical circle Saturday night as well as presenters interested in bringing out the magik in others by teaching. We also have a few vending spots left for those interested.

Namaste,

Bright Blessings everyone,

My name is Sue and I live up in the lovely mountains in Maryland. I am an eclectic pagan and have a group in Hagerstown called Queen of Heaven Circle. We practice every 3 Saturday of the month out of the UU Church in Hagerstown. We have recently established a Spiral Scouts group called Enchanted Circle as well. I keep pretty busy with that and have been attending Four Quarters Farm events when I can as well this year. I am also the volunteer coordinator at Fairie Festival in Glen Rock, Pa....lots of hats here!

I came to paganism about 8 years ago and have been on a roll ever since. It'll be great to see what everyone is doing and is involved with as well.

Love and Light,
Looking for help and ideas

When my mother passed away earlier this year one of the things that I inherited was her business. My mother ran a resale shop/farmers market booth. The items available were a pretty eclectic mix of items. When I came home to help her out we started to work on being slightly more specific in the customers we catered to. The direction we took was based on both her interests and my own. Specifically we started selling more items along the lines of New Age and Indian/Southwest style items. After my mother passed away I closed her store while I got her affairs and my life in order. Recently I’ve been getting my mind around the idea of re-opening her store with some changes. Instead of being strictly a farmers market type of operation I’ve been looking at something more in line with a retail style business.

Having said that I’d like to ask for some help and ideas. I’m looking at keeping in the direction of New Age items and possibly Southwest as well. I’m also considering adding Gothic items as well and have some ideas in this direction already.

My questions are this. If you were Boss for a day and could choose absolutely anything you wanted to carry what items would you include in such a store? What things have you looked for in other stores and not been able to find and wish you could? What things do you hate or find to be poor quality? Any ideas will be carefully considered and greatly appreciated. Please feel free to give any suggestions and don’t feel limited in items you might consider right now I’m looking for ideas and I’ll narrow the field later.

Obviously I won’t be including everything but I’d sure like to be able to offer people quality items and a good selection. The area that I am in currently does not have anything close by and the few shops that you can drive to have some items but really have very little. Having talked to many people in this area there seems to be a good customer base for such a store if it existed and based on the way sales picked up when we started to carry such things before the store closed it would seem to bear this out.

Again please let me say thank you for any help or ideas you can give. If you don’t feel comfortable posting here please feel free to message me privately.

Thanks so much,
Bob

New SpiralScouts™ troop forming in MD!

The Paint Branch Unitarian Universalist Church Board of Trustees has approved the sponsorship of a SpiralScouts™ troop to meet at their church in Adelphi Maryland!

SpiralScouts™ International is a program for girls and boys of minority faiths working, growing and learning together. Making its public debut in February of 2001, SpiralScouts™ International has grown into an expanded program available to anyone world wide. We now serve youth in 20 US States, Canada and Europe.

While SpiralScouts™ was developed on Pagan beliefs and practices, it is designed to be adaptable by other minority faiths as well. In addition to traditional woodland lore, camping and the outdoor living skills, the program includes teaching the many mythologies of the ancient world. Uniquely, it includes a component new to youth group programming - life strategies and skills for teens, to help them learn early how to have good relationships with their peers and adults, and interpersonal skills that will serve them throughout their adult lives.

SpiralScouts™ membership is open to children between the ages of 3 and 18 from all religious backgrounds, including Paganism and other minority faith traditions. We encourage diversity and acceptance in our groups. All are welcome to become members. Within the program there are three levels of child participation:
* FireFlies™ range from preschoolers through age 8.
*   SpiralScouts™ range from age 8 through 14.
*   PathFinders™ range from 14 up to 18.

The Nature Spirituality Circle of PBUUC will begin the chartering process shortly, and is looking for both leadership and membership in our new and as yet unnamed Circle. Please contact Tina Van Pelt at cvanpeltah@aol.com or Paul Richards at paulric@yahoo.com for further information.

Once in the Jurassic about 150 million years ago, the Great Sun Buddha in this corner of the Infanite Void gave a discourse to all the assembled elements and energies: to the standing beings, the walking beings, the flying beings, and the sitting beings - even the grasses, to the number of thirteen billion, each one born from a seed, assembled there: a Discourse concerning Enlightenment on the planet Earth

"In some future time, there will be a continent called America. It will have great centers of power called such as Pyramid Lake, Walden Pond, Mt. Rainier, Big Sur, Everglades, and so forth; and powerful nerves and channels such as Columbia River, Mississippi River, and Grand Canyon. The human race in that era will get into troubles all over its head, and practically wreck everything in spite of its own strong intelligent Buddha-nature."

"The twisting strata of the great mountains and the pulsings of volcanoes are my love burning deep in the earth. My obstinate compassion is schist and basalt and granite, to be mountains, to bring down the rain. In that future American Era I shall enter a new form; to cure the world of loveless knowledge that seeks with blind hunger: and mindless rage eating food that will not fill it."

And he showed himself in his true form of

SMOKEY THE BEAR
A handsome smokey-colored brown bear standing on his hind legs, showing that he is aroused and watchful.

Bearing in his right paw the Shovel that digs to the truth beneath appearances; cuts the roots of useless attach- ments, and flings damp sand on the fires of greed and war;

His left paw in the mudra of Comradly Display-indicating that all creatures have the full right to live to their limits and that of deer, rabbits, chipmunks, snakes, dandelions, and lizards all grow in the realm of the Dharma;

Wearing the blue work overalls symbolic of slaves and laborers, the countless men oppressed by a civilization that claims to save but often destroys;

Wearing the broad-brimmed hat of the west, symbolic of the forces that guard the wilderness, which is the Natural State of the Dharma and the true path of man on Earth:

all true paths lead through mountains-

With a halo of smoke and flame behind, the forest fires of the kali-yuga, fires caused by the stupidity of those who think things can be gained and lost whereas in truth all is contained vast and free in the Blue Sky and Green Earth of One Mind;

Round-bellied to show his kind nature and that the great earth has food enough for evryone who loves her and trusts her;

Trampling underfoot wasteful freeways and needless suburbs, smashing the worms of capitalism and totalitarianism;

Indicating the task: his followers, becoming free of cars, houses, canned foods, universities, and shoes, master the Three Mysteries of their own Body, Speech, and Mind; and fearlessly chop down the rotten trees and prune out the sick limbs of this country America and then burn the leftover trash.

Wrathful but calm. Austere but Comic. Smokey the Bear will Illuminate those who would help him; but for those who would hinder or slander him...

HE WILL PUT THEM OUT.
Thus his great Mantra:

Namah samanta vajranam chanda maharoshana Sphataya hum traks ham mam

"I DEDICATE MYSELF TO THE UNIVERSAL DIAMOND BE THIS RAGING FURY BE DESTROYED"

And he will protect those who love the woods and rivers, Gods and animals, hobos and madmen, prisoners and sick people, musicians, playful women, and hopeful children:

And if anyone is threatened by advertising, air pollution, television, or the police, they should chant SMOKEY THE BEAR'S WAR SPELL:

DROWN THEIR BUTTS
CRUSH THEIR BUTTS
DROWN THEIR BUTTS
CRUSH THEIR BUTTS
And SMOKEY THE BEAR will surly appear to put the enemy out with his vsjra-shovel.

Now those who recite this Sutra and then try to put it in practice will accumulate merit as countless as the sands of Arizona and Nevada.

Will help save the planet Earth from total oil slick. Will enter the age of harmony of man and nature. Will win the tender love and caresses of men, women, and beasts. Will always have ripened blackberries to eat and a sunny spot under a pine tree to sit at.

AND IN THE END WILL WIN HIGHEST PERFECT ENLIGHTENMENT

...thus we have heard...

Anyone see it? I'm not much for reality shows, I find that the contestants are usually conceited and just want to show off to the masses but I couldn't miss this. I was real surprised that so many of them turned down the chance to be involved in an actual Voodoo ceremony. I certainly wouldn't have passed that up!
